After watching the 'World According to Google' movie, what are your overall impressions of Google?
Describe in detail how Google 'ranks' their searches for the user.
Describe in detail how Google makes money even though they don't actually "make" anything.
Who founded Google? And what are their professional backgrounds (education, work experience, etc)
1.I think Google is a very good, reliable and safe search engine.

After watching the movie about Google, my prospective hasnt really changed. I learned how strong Google really is.

Google makes money from websites. They pay Google money to be the first site at the top of the search page. Whoever pays more is at the top.
Google was founded by two PhD college students. They were both engineers.
My impression of google is that the company cares about the users. I believe this because they try to make it easier for the users to find what their looking for without getting swamped by extra information. Google ranks searches for users by ranking a site by how many views it gets, and this does not pertain on how informative a site is. Many may wonder how google makes their money; well google makes their money by advertising. One way they use advertising is that companies can bid on an advertisement spot on google.One of google's founders is Vint Cerf. Sergey Brin and Larry Page created the actual google search engine. These two met during an orientation for standford new students and google was actually a research project.

I think of Google as a search engine site, an oversized one.

Google was founded by Sergey Brin and Lawrence Page. Sergey went to the University of Maryland and double-majored in computer science. Lawrence earned a masters degree in computer science at Stanford University. He also built a printer out of Legos.

3.) Google makes money by selling advertisments. Companies and businesses ask for links on the side of the page and pay thousands of dollars for their name on the site. Each business competes for their spot by paying large amounts. This earns Google most of their income.
4.) Sergey Brin and Larry Page are the founders of Google. They mainly majored in computers throughout high school. In college they both recieved their bachelor's degree in science and engineering. They both completed several honor's classes and computer science programs which all led up to the building of the best search engine, Google.
Google is my favorite searching website and is the most helpful searching site. They rank their wensite search results by how popular teh site is and make their money from advertisment. Businesses bid for the first spot on the right where the advertisment websites are located. Two students that wanted to make the best search engine started google; Frederick Vallaeys, Vint Cerf.

There are advertisments on the side of the page. The adversisments pay to be at the top of the list so they pay more.

My overall impression of Google is that it is generally pretty reliable but I don't think it's as private as they say. I think that if they have the ability to link search terms to specific computers, then they could use that information in the wrong way. Google "ranks" their users by how relevant the page is. If their are many links pointing to that page or it is clicked on many times, it will high up on the search results. Google makes money because they are directing traffic to other sites. People pay for their advertisements to pop up, and if someone clicks on it then Google gets paid. If a key word is frequently searched, the business has to pay more than usual to advertise. Larry Page and Sergey Brin are the founders of Google. They founded it while attending Stanford University as Ph.D candidates.

I think that google is a brilliant site and resource. Althought it is a bit bothersome how they keep a record of all of your searches.

Companies who have a product to sell bid for their rank on the top and right hand side of your search. Also, the advertisement's rank depends on the relevance to the keyword. Google was founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin. They were students at Stanford University going to be Ph.D. candidates.

ReplyDeleteOverall, i still have a pretty good impression of google-its a reliable search engine that has the customers best interest in mind. Although I do think we should try to use other search engines besides google from time to time to pull up some different sites and such. Rankings on google are done according to the respectibility of the website (such as new york times), the number of hyperlinks pointing to the sites, and the relativity the website has to the query thats typed ionto the search box. Although google doesn't seem like a "momey-making" organization, it is. Thousands of adviretisements related to your search appear on the right hand side of the screen everytime you do a search. This is how google makes it's money. In 1998 google was founded by two stanford graduates-Sergy Brin and Larry Page. they wanted to make the best search engine. Both had great academic backgrounds. Larry Page's parents were both dedicated to computer science, Larry learned much from them. Page vachieved the Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Michigan then moved to Stanford where he met Brin.Brin was born in the Soviet Union, in 1979 the family moved to the U.S. Brin specialized in math (his parents were both mathimaticians) until he switched into computer sciences at the University of Maryland (then he enrolled at Stanford). Both ended up dropping out of school to make google.
